Originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee, Robert W. Worthington (Bob) graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1979. In 1981, he received an MBA with a concentration in finance from Georgia State University.
After two years in the investment banking business, Bob began his real estate career in Atlanta, Georgia with Richard Felker Company where he became Executive Vice President and oversaw all of the firm’s acquisition, disposition, and financing activity. The company was primarily involved in the syndication and operation of multi-family assets within the State of Georgia.
In 1991, Bob, along with Robert Schaedle, formed a real estate investment firm in venture with J.R. (Pitt) Hyde, III and John H. Pontius known as Schaedle Worthington Hyde Properties (SWH). SWH became a fully integrated real estate acquisition, development, construction, and management organization which controlled and operated apartment and hotel properties in 12 different states through its acquisition and development of such assets. Bob served as Chairman and CEO of the organization, which had over 500 employees.
Today, Bob remains in partnership with John Tirrill, Pitt Hyde and John Pontius through META Real Estate Partners, a real estate investment fund which invests the capital of its principals and outside partners into real estate assets across a diverse spectrum of holdings. Over his career, Bob has been chiefly responsible for over $3 billion dollars in real estate transactions. He has received several industry awards and has been a lecturer and panelist at numerous real estate and business gatherings.
Bob resides in Atlanta, Georgia where he is active in a number of civic ways, including serving as a Trustee Emeritus for Wesleyan School, a K-12 fully programmed independent school. He is married to the former Piper Jan Berryman, and they have three children.
